Purpose
Electronics is based on basic principles of physics. However, electricity and electronics may be hard to comprehend due to its esoteric and non-intuitive nature. In addition, accelerated technological innovation in the field requires constant updating of knowledge and life long learning. The teaching of electronic principles requires many forms of learning methods, from hands-on circuit building to computer based simulation.

In order to build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills in electronics, we propose to build a network of educators and online resources to facilitate teaching and learning. Part of this endeavor is the concept of a database of “learning objects” (LOs) or self contained and re-usable learning resources. The files presented here are learning objects to test the concept and develop standard methods for further work.

One of the areas in electronics identified as problematic by our college partners in the PASS project (Partnering to Articulate for Student Success) is student learning and retention of basic principles such as Ohm’s Law, which provides the basis of understanding analog circuit design. In addition, students new to electronics need to understand the basics of electrical and physical measurements and computer simulation of circuit designs. We hope the following sample LOs provide insight into the possibilities of learning objects in the teaching of electronics.
